How to enable Alt + Tab in citrix remote desktop

It’s been a year since the last post. Time does fly, now I see. Here is quick tidbit that I am using now a days.

http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX118974

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICAClient\Engine\Lockdown Profiles\All Regions\Lockdown\Virtual Channels\Keyboard\

Value Name: TransparentKeyPassthrough

Type: REG_SZ

Value: FullScreenOnly, Remote, or Local

Remote applies the Windows hotkeys to the window in focus.

Local never applies the Windows hotkeys to the session.

I am using ‘Remote”. Life seems easy.

Edit: 04/14/2011 – Looks like the settings are different for windows 7 64 bit. I will post on that soon.

Win7 64 bit is working for me by following the same path but starting with HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Thanks for this posting! Not being able to alt-tab in Citrix RDP was killing me!

    Hi All,

i have an issue here with this Alt + Tab. dont know whether this work around will work in my environment. please have a look at the below details.

we had installed Citrix XenApp 6.5. we had published one application called on base. users are having multi monitors. they opens on base via Citrix ICA session and one local application in their local desktop. they will copy data from the application which they opened locally from their machine and paste that data in the on base application which is opened via ICA session. now the problem is when they point mouse pointer some where in on base application and they will press Alt + Tab button to shift to the local application then they will copy data and tries to paste it the on base application. but the mouse pointer in the ICA session goes some where. i mean it is not in a position which we kept in previous state. so users have to manually point the mouse again there and have to paste it. so how can i make the mouse pointer to stay there only where users had put the mouse pointer in the previous state ? the same thing is working fine in T farm ( Terminal Farm ), but its not working in ICA session. please give me a suggestion as this is a big issue here in our environment. thanks in advance. i had tried Local Resources option in web interface. like on the remote computer, on the local machine and in full screen but no use. i have to do any changes in XenApp server or in users machine ? users have Citrix receiver installed on their local machine.

    Hi Guys,

for 64-bit windows 7 machines you can try this key instead of HKCU. HKCU means only the current user wil get this settings. HKLM means who ever loggin to the machine they will get this settings. one doubt for me that this settings i should do in users machine or in xenapp servers ?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\ICA Client\Engine\Lockdown Profiles\All Regions\Lockdown\Virtual Channels\Keyboard

    “TransparentKeyPassthrough”=

yeah i got it but i did not done these changes in registry. simply i had changed in web interface that in xenapp site session settings and local resources then i had changed display from seamless window to 1024*768 resolution. now Alt + Tab is working for me. it seems seamless window have some problem

It worked great for me on Windows 7 and 8. I was so happy. But then I upgraded to 8.1 and now it’s not working again. Anyone who has a solution for 8.1 users?

Does any one how to enable it when you are connected through Mac?

    • #21 by niazzaman on February 24, 2014 - 2:38 pm

Come to think of it, I never tried it through mac. My company is using Citrix java now, which looks really small in Mac firefox and does not even work in Safari. So, I just use windows.

Awesome, you just made my day. I tried FullScreenOnly without success, but “Remote” is working perfectly.
